Property taxes in the Leigh Nebraska school district are outrageous! We need to proceed immediately and purposefully with school consolidation. Eighty percent of property taxes go to the Leigh school. Property owners are in desperate need of property tax relief in the District 39 tax area!

The Leigh school district needs to "face the music" and proceed with consolidation as soon as possible. Maintaining 5 separate school districts within a 20 mile area is no longer feasible with current population trends.

Here is a link to a thorough and convincing study on the benefits of school consolidation:

http://www.ericdigests.org/pre-925/school.htm

It is study of school consolidation in Oregon. You can read the report, but in a nutshell it says that there are gainers and losers in school consolidation. The winners are:

students--they have more class choices, more high quality teachers, expanded and better facilities, more variety in extra-curricular activities.

Tax Payers--the study found a 40% decrease in school levies after consolidation!

The main losers are:

teachers and administrative personel in the combined districts--less staff is needed, particularly in the support areas

Clearly the advantages of consolidation outweigh any disadvantages.

Who are you? If you don't like Leigh why don't you move? Why do you keep bashing Leigh?

This is interesting and begs the question why would we invest any more money in a school system in a town like Leigh. According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the fastest growing segment of the population in communities like Leigh is widows over the age of 88. We need to be spending our tax dollars more wisely and in adult community support facilities. The priorities of the ruling elite are all screwed up and selfishly squandered for their own benefit to keep their spouses farming and health insurance.

Great information, as a Platte County taxpayer, I couldn't agree more. I am sick and tired of paying taxes to these schools.

Good information, it is hopeless, they just don't get it.
